Phyllis J. Orr

Phyllis J. Orr, age 80, of New Castle passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Heritage House Rehabilitation Center. She was born in May 11, 1932 in New Castle, IN to the late Phillip and Ollie (Hughes) McGavitt.

Phyllis attended New Castle Schools. She had worked in the cafeteria at Greenstreet Elementary and also at Parkview Jr. High School. She also worked at Brooks Canning Factory and Big Lots in New Castle. She was a member of TOPS #570. She bowled on many bowling leagues and was an avid BINGO player.

She is survived by three daughters, Cindy K. Brown of Muncie, Kathy Kendall of Shirley, Kimberly Orr of Vincennes, IN; a son, Scott Orr (wife, Kathy) of New Castle; an “adopted” son, Roger (wife, Billie) Johnson of McCordsville; grandchildren, Shanna (husband, Bennie) Scere of Vincennes, Holly (husband, Jonathan) Jones of San Francisco, CA, and Amy Kendall of Shirley, Samantha and Austin Orr of New Castle, Stephanie (husband: Matt) Sousa of New Castle and Sara Andis of Georgia; three great grandchildren, Madelyn Scere and Bennie “Trey” Scere III, and Maci Sousa three brothers, Jim, Mike and Clarence McGavitt all of Houston, TX; a sister, Carol Tyler of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; husband, Philip Orr; two brothers, George and Bob McGavitt; and two sisters, Ann Lewis and Edna Lopez.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow at Batson Cemetery.
