Phyllis Ann Swift, 72, a resident of New Castle passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. She was born March 29, 1952 in New Castle to the late Cecil and Melissa (Brown) Sexton.

Phyllis went back to school late in life to earn her LPN license where she worked at Richmond State Hospital, Snug Harbor and the Waters, retiring from Glen Oaks Health Campus. She also volunteered at ICAP as a foster grandparent for eight years. Phyllis attended First Church of the Nazarene and read the Bible through twice. She enjoyed sewing and quilting with her mother. Phyllis cared so much for her family and friends, along with her dogs, Cinnamon and Little Bit. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Left to cherish Phyllis’s memories include two daughters: Patricia (Jeff) Pyle and Dee (Tony) Racine; grandchildren: Jessica Stamper, Andrea Butler, Audrea Racine and Aaron Racine; great-grandchildren: Madyson, Brooklynn and Joshua Stamper, Alexia Butler, Carson Racine and Emercyn Stearns; brothers: Clifford (Sandy) Sexton, David (Gerry) Sexton and Greg Sexton (Tammie Smith); mother-in-law: Vera Swift; brothers-in-law: Jeff Swift (Debbie Cole) and Tim (Rachael) Swift; sister-in-law: Carol (Bill) Hamby and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years: Stephen Swift; step-father, Lester Ziglar; sister, Sue Arms; brothers: Glenwood, Melvin, Eugene, Kenneth, Phillip and Danny Sexton; grandson by marriage: Dustin Stamper; several nieces and nephews; father-in-law: James Swift; brothers-in-law: Jerry Swift, Brian Swift and John Melton; sisters-in-law: Cathy Keesling, Cindy Melton, Jeanette Swift and Karen Swift.

The family would like to thank IU Hospice and especially Jamie for taking such good care of our loved one.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Jimmy Southerland and Danny Goddard officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of the service on Wednesday.
