Reatha “Kate” Gillmore, age 89, passed away December 7, 2012, at Heritage House Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Kate was born in Patterson, Missouri, on July 13, 1923, to the late Lawrence H. and Lola P. (Bennett) Parton.
Kate graduated from Patterson High School in 1940. She taught school for 2 years in a one-room school house before marrying and moving to St. Louis. Kate married C.B. Meador in 1941 in Silva, Missouri; they had four children: Connie, Jayne, Terry, and Kathy.
Kate and her children moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1958, and she later married Clyde Gillmore in 1961. They resided in Denver until they moved to New Castle in 1999. Kate and Clyde were married for 38 years until his passing in 2000. She retired from Consolidated Freightways in Denver, Colorado, where she worked for 27 years as a computer operator.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Connie (Don) Loveless of New Castle, Jayne (James) Schindler of Brighton, CO, Kathy (Gary) Ellis on Montrose, CO; stepdaughter, Linda Davis of Denver, CO; stepson, Jim Gillmore of George, WA; grandchildren, Cindy Loveless-Campbell, Don Loveless, Jr., Bryan Loveless, Jason (Lora) Loveless, Randy (Julie) Schindler, Joy Morgan, Jill Keane, and Denise Lanford; step grandchildren, Vincent (Kelly) Ellis, Kari (Paul) Osborne; sister, Elaine (Tom) Cougar of Chadron, NE; brothers, Roy (Sharon) Parton of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Jerry (Eve) Parton of Denver, CO; and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Gillmore; son, Terry A. Meador; sister, Nell Montgomery; brothers, Arthur, Carl, Bryan, and Bennett Parton; and her foster brother, Gordon Steele.
Kate was a member of Grace Baptist Church in New Castle. She enjoyed cooking for her family, tending her garden, and sewing.
Visitation for Kate will be held on Tuesday, December 11, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 12, at 11 a.m. Pastor Denny Neal will officiate the service. Arrangements are being handled by Elm Ridge Funeral Home, Muncie and Hinsey-Brown Funeral Services, New Castle.
