Rebecca E. Carter

Rebecca E. Carter, age 58, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening at Henry County Hospital. She was born July 26, 1953 in Jamestown, TN, a daughter of the late Robert EJ and Ida Mae (Upchurch) Abbott.

Becky was an outgoing, loving, and friendly person. She enjoyed residing at Heritage House Convalescent Center for the past seven years, where she always had a smile on her face. She loved to play BINGO and enjoyed going to Hoosier Downs in Anderson. She also enjoyed reading, crafts and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, John Carter of New Castle; a son, Stanton Robert Gibson of Columbia City; a sister, Diana (husband, Dr. Richard) Foster of New Castle; a nephew, Bryan Stephens of New Castle; a step-niece, Dr. Susan (husband, Aaron) Benson of New Castle; a step-nephew, Richard G. (wife, Kelly) Foster of Avon; a great niece, Jasmine Stephens; a special great nephew, Nathan Benson, and step-great nephew, Thomas Richard Foster; a step-great niece, Lizzie Foster; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ida Mae (Upchurch) Abbott, paternal grandparents, Wid and Hattie Abbott, and maternal grandparents, Shiner and Ruby Upchurch.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Mundy Funeral Home in Jamestown, TN with the Reverend Fletcher Upchurch officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sharp Cemetery in Jamestown. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
