Rebecca Joy Hufford, 80, a lifelong resident of New Castle passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Henry County Hospital. She was born April 25, 1936 in New Castle to the late John Everett and Arkie Morine (Wiles) Carender.
Joy was a member of The Trinity United Methodist Church in New Castle and retired from the State Hospital following 20 years of service. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and nana who loved her family very much. As a great homemaker, Joy loved to cook and was known for her tasty pecan pies. She was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping trips to Lake Monroe. Joy also loved traveling, shopping, and playing Mexican Train Dominoes.
Joy is survived by her husband of 40 years, David Hufford of New Castle; children, Karen (Steve) Thompson of New Castle, Vicki (Companion: Claris Clements) Walters of New Castle, Jody (Kevin) Vincent of Logansport, Sherri (Bill) Vandergriff of Chattanooga, TN, Jenny (Dale) Fultz of Lewisville, Larry (Susie) Hufford of New Castle, Sister, Cathy Johnson of New Castle; grandchildren, Jason Hunnicutt of Muncie, Benjamin (Michelle) Walters of New Castle, Adam (Companion: Chelsea Strouse) Walters of Muncie, Julie (Jeremy) Warner of Brownsburg, Katie (Dave) O’Neal of Ft. Wayne, Kari (Jesse) Michaels of Logansport, Tracey Dumford of Chattanooga, TN, Stephanie Buscemi of Ringgold, GA, Chad (Staci) Whitehead of New Castle, Holly (Companion: Bryan Guffey) Hudson of New Castle, Christopher (Melanie) Hufford of New Castle; 18 great grandchildren; newphews, Jon (Ruthann) Powless of New Castle, Shane (Companion: Debra Taylor) Riggs of Shirley, Brandon (Lorrie) Riggs of Decatur; best friend, Norella Wilson of New Castle; caregiver, Nikki of New Castle; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Joy is preceded in death by her infant son, James Todd Hagerman; brother, Ray Douglas Carender; sister, Majorie Powless (June 2016); brothers- in- law, Ivan Powless and Norman Johnson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Roby Wood officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
