Reverend Jerry Walden

One of God's most faithful passed away on October 1, 2009 at the Golden Living Center-Mansion Nursing Home, 1040 Market Street, Sunbury, PA.

The Rev. Jerry W. Walden was born in New Castle on September 6, 1937, Indiana, to the late Woodrow and Goldie Walden.

Jerry married the former Mary L. Haynes of New Castle, Indiana on September 16, 1961. They just celebrated 48 years of Marriage.

Jerry graduated from New Castle High School in 1956. After High school he joined the Army as an MP and was stationed at Camp De Lodge in France. He served from 1956 to 1959.

In 1963 Jerry accepted his calling in the ministry, working in his local church in New Castle. He attended Ohio Bible College in 1967. He was ordained as a United Pentecostal Church minister in 1967. Jerry pastored in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and Calvary Tabernacle, Sunbury, PA. Jerry served the Sunbury church for 24 years and retired in June 2005. While pastoring he continued his education receiving a degree in theology from Indiana Bible College. His life's work was serving others.

Jerry loved to travel, and during his ministry preached revivals in over 25 states of the United States. His love of travel took him to Holland, England, the Holy Land, France, Germany, and Spain.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Edward of Bowling Green, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; and, one daughter and son-in-law, Jerra and Husband, Italo DiPrisco of Doral, Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and wife, CrisTee Walden of Murrieta, California; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Carl and Taylor Carl, and Jerry W. Walden II; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Gerald Ayers of New Castle, Indiana; and one sister-in-law, Alice Walden of Bowling Green, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverends Larry Neal, James H. McElhaney, and Don Silvers officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
