Rhonda Kay Tompkins, 63, of Shirley, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2024 at home. She was born to Ronald and Erma (McRoberts) Elliott on February 9, 1961. She graduated from Knightstown High School in 1979. She married Anthony Neale Tompkins on January 1, 1988.

Rhonda worked for Mayhill Publications in Knightstown for many years. She then worked at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, and then later, Metaldyne. She was also one of the founders of Whitetail Gun shop. Rhonda spent her last years caring for her late mother-in-law, Theria Tompkins and being a full time stay at home grandma. She enjoyed taking day trips with her husband, evening rabbit rides through Shirley and visited Las Vegas. She and her husband were lifelong farmers in Henry County. She always had a smile on her face.

Rhonda was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Knightstown, enjoyed playing softball in her younger years and bowling, was a talented cook and cake maker, and was an avid gardener and home canner. And most of all, she loved her grandkids, kids and husband. She set a great example in being kind, patient, polite and hardworking.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 36 years, Anthony Neale Tompkins; four children, Bradley Elliott of Shirley, Britney (Bart) Fraley of Lewisville, Katie (James Key) Tompkins of Shirley and Jake (Maddie) Tompkins of Shirley; five grandchildren, Waylon, Elijah “Stormy” and Willow Key, Houston Fraley and Ada Tompkins. She is also survived by her siblings, Cynthia (Mike) Gasper of Westport, Natalie (Scott Holler) Elliott of New Castle, Melissa Elliott of North Manchester; sisters-in-law, Winifred Tharp, Georgiana Childress, Ruth Redmon; brothers-in-law, Marvin Rees, Laramie Tompkins, Ted Tompkins and Phil McDonald; several nieces and nephews, and honorary son, Nick Snider.

Rhonda is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Cindy Rees; her brother, Kevin Elliott; in-laws, Willard and Theria Tompkins; sister-in-law, Estelle McDonald and brothers-in-law, Bob Tompkins, Darwin Tompkins, Herb Tompkins and Randy Tompkins.

Services will be at 8:00 PM Friday, July 5, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Bill Swallers officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, or Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital with envelopes available at the funeral home.
