Richard Lee Alexander

Richard Lee Alexander, age 75, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born June 24, 1938 in Monticello, Kentucky to the late Cicero Alexander and Ina (Walcott) and Lonnie Sisk.

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Richard was a lifelong farmer raising cattle and hogs and also worked at Diamond International Paper in New Castle. He enjoyed gardening and sharing vegetables with his neighbors. He was a former member of Chicago Corner Christian Church and a current member of New Testament Church of Christ in Hagerstown. He was baptized and professed his faith to Christ many years ago. In 2005 he took a mission trip to Mozambique, Africa and a trip to the Holy Land where he was re-baptized in the Jordon River in 2008. He loved attending activities of his grandchildren. He was also a Pacers, Colts, and NASCAR fan. He loved his black lab “Taj”.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucy Alexander of Hagerstown; children, Pat (Tom) Young of Okeana, OH, Pam (Bill) Sutherland of New Castle, and Penny Alexander of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jerry (Alex) Young of Nashville, TN, Racheal (Will) Elgin of New Castle, Sara Young of Okeana, OH, and Ashley Sutherland of New Castle; great grandson, Elija Elgin; a sister, Shirley (Clifford) Ramsey of Anderson; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half brother, Fred (Marge) Alexander; mother and father-in-law, Roy and Effie Gregory.

Services will be at1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at New Testament Church of Christ in Hagerstown, Indiana with Reverends Rod Beheler and Paul Gearhart officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the New Testament Church of Christ in Hagerstown. Memorial contributions may be given to the Missionary Team of the New Testament Church of Christ. Services are entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
