Richard “Dick” L. Evans, age 80, of Mt. Summit, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. He was born April 12, 1935 in Decatur County, Indiana to the late Marshall W. and Virginia L. (Tibbetts) Evans.
A 1953 graduate of Sandcreek High School in Westport, Indiana, he was a graduate of Ball State University where he obtained a Bachelor and Masters Degree, then in 1977 he received his EDS degree. He was a member of Mt Summit Christian Church where he was an elder. Dick was a member of Sulphur Springs Blue Lodge, 50 year Mason, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, and Murat Shrine of Indianapolis. He retired from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home, where he was the director of curriculum, and also held teaching positions at Mt. Summit, Chrysler, Union City and Hartford City Schools. He was a Scout Master for troop #450 for 30 plus years, Eagle Scout with 6 palms and Silver Beaver. Dick loved woodworking, especially intarsia and had made several hand carved bears, he was also an avid painter.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Fern Evans of Mt. Summit; children, Steve (Cheryl) Evans and children, Jared (Bekah) Evans, Caleb Evans and Mallory Evans; Stephanie Evans; Mark (Holly) Evans and children, Ashley and Ben Evans; Kevin Evans and child, Kyle Evans; a great granddaughter, Brenna Evans; siblings, Edward E. (Cheryll) Evans and Marsha K. (Mark) Eden; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald S. Evans; daughter-in-law, Lisa Evans.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Mt. Summit Christian Church with Pastor Mark O’Brien officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Greensburg. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with a Masonic Service conducted by the Sulphur Springs Blue Lodge at 5:30 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
