Richard Hoover

October 21, 1929 — March 9, 2014

Richard Hoover, from New Castle, IN and Treasure Island, FL passed away on March 9th, 2014.

Born on October 21, 1929 in Akron, OH, he was the son of Sheldon and Florence Hoover. He graduated from Akron University and was an active member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He married Carol Seifert.

He enlisted in the Air Force, served in Japan and was honorably discharged as a Captain. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, OH and then moved to New Castle, IN where he eventually became a partner in CMH and Associates. He served on the New Castle School Board for 16 years. He took great pride in the school building efforts and accomplishments of the board during his years of service. He was heavily invested in the education of his children and grandchildren. He was honored to be appointed to the Citizens State Bank Board and served for many productive years. He was an active member and faithful supporter of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Castle, IN for forty years serving as both council member and Sunday school teacher. He was a powerful force for positive growth in every organization in which he served. He was renowned for his hardworking take charge style, his enthusiasm and his overflowing generosity.

He was devoted to his family and was beloved in return. He was an avid fisherman and taught three generations to enjoy the sport with him. His love of the outdoors was expressed by his development of a 67 acre country getaway in southern Indiana that was an enormously popular recreational site for family and friends.

He is survived by Carol his wife of 64 years, his sister Shirley (Robert) Kmet, his children, Deborah (Neil) Power, Richard (Elizabeth) Hoover, Shelley (John) Newby, David (Sharon) Hoover, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10th at the South Mound Cemetery in New Castle.
