Richard W. Oliver Sr.

Richard W. Oliver, Sr., 67, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at his residence. He was born September 3, 1947 in Ft. Lee, VA the son of Richard W. and Thorna Mary (Lambright) Shaw
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam. Richard was employed at Henry County Highway Department for several years and then worked for Broadway Trucking Company in Muncie. He also was an over the road truck driver. Richard was a member of Charity Baptist Church in New Castle and a member of the Tri County Golf Club where he was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife Ruby G. “Geri” (Cross) Oliver whom he married May 11, 1985; five children, Shannon Oliver and Rick Oliver, Jr. of New Castle; Brian Bertram (companion, Charisse) of Texas, Rex Bertram (companion, Kelly) of Redkey, Janene (husband, Bill) Smith of New Castle; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Scherry May and Sue (husband, John) Morrison both of Ohio; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, George.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, February 23, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Castle First Aid Unit, 1515 “I” Avenue, New Castle, IN 47362. Condolences and memories of Richard may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com .
