Richard Lee Sayre

Richard Lee Sayre, 84, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation in New Castle. He was born October 11, 1937 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Lawrence M. and Esta Mae (Saunders) Sayre.

He was a New Castle resident his entire life. Richard retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1997 after 31 years of service in the maintenance department. He had attended Sunnyside Church of Christ and was an avid collector of baseball cards and sports memorabilia. He was also an avid fan of New Castle Trojan basketball.

Survivors include daughters, Melody (Joe) Cheek of Spiceland and Sherri (John) Johnson of Knightstown, a sister, Priscilla (John) Ankrom of Greenfield; a brother, Jerry (Lavone) Sayre of Tennessee; grandchildren, Jeremiah Davis, Jasmine Sayre, Amber Riley, Jason Sayre, Cheyenne Hollars, Devon Niedenthal; and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Brenda (Bruce) Orr of Greenfield.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Wilson, and his second wife, Shirley R. Sayre on January 13, 1998; a son, Richard Sayre; sister, Peggy Clark and a brother, Mike Sayre.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition with John Ankrom officiating.
