Robert L. “Bob” Burke, age 87, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Henry County Hospital. He was born October 2, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Thomas and Edna (Hankenhoff) Burke.
Bob retired from Delco Remy in Anderson following 36 years of service and served in the United States Army. He tended bar at Byers Tavern, he also had worked at both Jarrett’s and Eaton’s Market as a meat cutter.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Alice “Helen” Burke of New Castle; children, Thomas (Shelly) Burke of Bedias, TX, John (Rae Etta) Burke of Plainfield, and Ron (Mary) Burke of New Castle; grandchildren, Teresa Burke of TX, Tiffany (Jim) Bertrand of TX, Angela (Derek) Clay of Plainfield, John “Jr” (Hannah) Burke of San Diego, CA, Brandon Burke of New Castle, and Travis (Shannon) Burke of New Castle; ten great grandchildren; one half brother, Billy and half sister, Janet; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Buddy, Frank, Kenny, Alice Rouch, Kate Coffey and Edna Mary Adams.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Art Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and the VFW and an active contingent from the US Army.
