Robert A. “Bob” Edington, age 90, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born February 23, 1920 in Kewanna, Indiana to the late Robert M. and Olive (Roberts) Edington.

He served in the United States Army during WWII, serving in Okinawa. He received a bronze star among other recognitions and medals. Bob farmed in Henry County for many years and enjoyed raising Haflingers and working with horses. He also enjoyed going on wagon trains to Brown County.

Survivors include his daughters, Bonnie (husband, Mike) Jordan of New Castle, Linda Edington of New Castle and Betty (husband, Norman) Rust of New Castle; a son, John (wife, Jean) Edington of Cambridge City; five grandchildren; six step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; five step great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Fansler of Fortville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ladyne Edington in 2006; a son, Daniel Edington in 1988; two sisters, Gail Wilson and Gladys Plummer.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the New Castle-Henry County First Aid Unit, 1315 “I” Ave., New Castle, IN 47362 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
