Robert Phillip Hamblin Jr.

Robert Phillip Hamblin, Jr., 71, of Shirley, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born August 25, 1939 in Beech Grove, the son of Robert and Margaret (Bailey) Hamblin, Sr.
He retired from the Indianapolis Police Department on July 26, 1991 after 26 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a loving family man and his children were the light of his life.
He is survived by his wife Rhoda (Wires) Hamblin of Shirley; children: Gwen (Greg) Back of Shirley; Jo (Chad) Starrett of Shirley, Bob (Lori) Hamblin of Indianapolis; Brian (Kristi) Hamblin of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister: Edith Owens of Nineveh, IN; 17 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Don Hamblin; sister: Carol Cahill.
Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 PM Saturday, August 27, 2011 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Calling will be from 10:00 AM until 12:00 at St. Rose Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass immediately following. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel.
