Robert A. Johnson, 82, of Muncie, IN, peacefully passed on Wednesday, June 28th, after an extended illness. He was born on October 29, 1940, in Indianapolis to Bernard “Bernie” and Mildred (Stoker) Johnson.
He was a graduate of Burris Laboratory School and Ball State University as well as a veteran of the Indiana National Guard. Since childhood, Robert has been a loyal Philadelphia Phillies fan with the true highlight being their 2008 World Series win on his birthday. During his professional career he was employed by Standard Oil Company and eventually owned and operated Arby’s restaurants in Muncie and Anderson. Robert had a sharp mind for finance and was keenly interested in the stock market and investments. He faithfully attended True Light Baptist Church. He loved the home he shared in Muncie with his wife Glenda and spent many happy years there overlooking the pond behind their home.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Michael Miller. He is survived by his wife Glenda (Taylor) Johnson; daughter, Julianna Johnson of Boulder, CO; son David Johnson of Gdynia, Poland; stepdaughter, Ronda (Dan) Fox of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Krista Linville of New Castle; granddaughter, Katie (Nathan) Bennett of New Castle; grandson, Blake Miller of Massillon, OH; grandson, Shawn Linville of Indianapolis; grandson, Bryce Miller of Muncie; great-granddaughter, Marin Bennett, also of New Castle, as well as sisters-in-law Judy Taylor of Georgetown, KY and Linda Hartmann of New Castle and his former wife and mother of his children, Mary “Roni” Johnson.
Services will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, July 1st with calling hours from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm and the funeral at 1:00 pm with burial following in South Mound Cemetery.
