Robert VanZant

Robert George VanZant (April 16, 1926 - March 11, 2009) New Castle...Robert George VanZant, 83, lifetime resident of New Castle, Indiana, passed away Wednesday evening at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in New Castle, April 16, 1926, the son of the late George and Marcella Hessler VanZant. He was a 1944 graduate of New Castle High School and retired from the Post Office in 1984 after 39 years of service. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army and a bronze star recipient. He was a member of the New Castle American Legion Post #317, the Elks Lodge #484, The Rural Letter Carriers Association and the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of 57 years: LouAnna (Diekman) VanZant of New Castle, two sons: Rex (Terri) VanZant of New Castle and Dr. Scott VanZant (Dr. Karen Gerhart) of Pittsburgh, one daughter: Ellen Johns (Christopher) of Muncie, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter: Katherine Ann in 1976. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle with Rev. Rex Espiritu officiating assisted by Rev. Marty Ballard. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the funeral home.
