Roger Hale Daffron, 63, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 after a 3 year battle with cancer. He passed away at home with his loved ones at his side. He was born July 26, 1945 in Monticello, Kentucky to the late Clarence “Jessie†and Ina (Bertram) Daffron. He moved to New Castle that same year along with his family and resided here throughout his life.
He was an avid musician who spent 45 years of his life in the entertainment business. He was a lead and bass guitar player and vocalist and will long be remembered as the leader of the “Turnstyle†Band who performed at the Shag Room in New Castle for 10 years. At the time his illness began in 2005, he was employed with Atlas Cold Storage in Shelbyville, Indiana and was formerly employed with Monroe Custom Utility Bodies in Mt. Comfort, Indiana. He enjoyed playing music and watching sports, but his favorite past time was his grandchildren whom he adored. He was also a member of Crossview United Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife: Deborah (Asberry) Daffron; two grandsons at home whom he helped care for throughout their lives: Jayke Robert Herndon II and Joshua Edward Hale West; three sons: Ricky Daffron, Mark (wife: Karla) Daffron of Little Rock, AR and Jeff (wife: Tina) Daffron of Greenfield, IN; four daughters: Julie (husband: Glen) McCrory of Little Rock, AR. Leslie (husband: Larry) Mitchell of New Castle, Dustie (husband: Ben) Crabtree of Springport and Jill Brown of New Castle; a stepson: Dallas Reynolds (fiance: Shannon Ellis) of Greenfield, IN; a stepdaughter: Danielle (husband: Jayke) Herndon of New Castle; a brother: Glen (wife: Ailene) Daffron of New Castle; three sisters: Mildred Delk of Kokomo, IN, Maxine (husband: Don) Feltman of Hamilton, AL and Helen Dishman of Montello, WI; his mother-in-law: Marie (husband: Elmer) Troxell and his father-in-law: Dallas (wife: Linda) Asberry all of New Castle; his life’s pride and joy twenty six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his lifelong friends: Glea Williams, Phyllis Clapp, Janet Barnes, June Jackson Kirby, Bob Snedigar, Michael Davis and many more.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Martin Daffron; a step grandson: “Little†Larry Mitchell; two brothers: Leo and Eddie Daffron; a sister: Hazel Covey; seven nephews: Steve and David Daffron, Allen, Phillip and Mark Seargent John Martin, Jr. and Andrew Bell; one great nephew: Arron Daffron.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Glenn Harding and David Perry officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the funeral home.
