Roger Alan Ocker

September 3, 1949 — April 28, 2023

Roger Alan Ocker, 73, of New Castle passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. He was born September 3, 1949 in New Castle to the late Richard and Elizabeth (Laughlin) Ocker.

Roger graduated from Walter P. Chrysler High School in 1967. He attended Western New Mexico University before he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He proudly served with the 101st Airborne Division during the war. Roger retired from Chrysler Corp. after working over 30 years at the New Castle and Dayton, Ohio plants. His hobbies included hiking, canoeing, kayaking, camping and enjoying a cold Coca-Cola. Roger was a nature lover and enjoyed feeding the squirrels.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter: Autumn (Brian) Stoner of Greenfield and his son: Eric Ocker of New Castle; three grandchildren: Allison, Kaitlyn and Jacob Stoner; his sister: Sue (Tom) Makofske of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents listed above, Roger was preceded in death by his lifelong best friend/brother: Jake Padgett.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Stonebrooke Rehab facility for the wonderful care given to Roger.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Brian Neal officiating. Military rites will be conducted by contingents of the US Army, American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in St. Anne Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you go outside and enjoy nature, doing your favorite activity while thinking of Roger.
