Roger D. Rains, age 96, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 11, 2012 at Heritage House Nursing Home in New Castle. He was born August 2, 1915 in Freetown, Indiana to the late Edward S. and Fauna (Zike) Rains.
Roger worked as a Master Mechanic for Chrysler Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1973. He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and golfer. He enjoyed making a hole-in-one when he was 85 years old. He loved watching the Colts and Pacers. Roger was an inventor of several items.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 75 years, Betty Smith Rains; son, Jack L. (wife, Karen) Rains of New Castle; two granddaughters, Kristi (husband, Scott) Duff of Indianapolis and Amy (husband, Larry) Scubelek of Fishers, IN; three great grandchildren, Alexandra Duff, Nicholas Scubelek and Jordan Scubelek; sister, Mildred (husband, Midge) Hinchberger; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tana Rains; three brothers, twin brother, Robert Rains, Charles Rains and Halford Rains; two sisters, Beulah Richey and Virginia Lambo; nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will take place at South Mound Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army, 2500 Washington St., New Castle, Indiana 47362.
