Roger Ward

Roger Ward, age 75, of rural New Castle, passed away Tuesday. April 27, 2010. He was born July 9, 1934, in Spiceland, Indiana, the son of the late Chester and Pauline (Crandall) Ward.

He was a 1952 graduate of Spiceland High School and a well-known farmer for over 55 years. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer in Henry County Award in 1968. He had been an employee of the Chrysler Hammer Shop and New Castle Modernfold. He served two years in the United States Army. For many years Roger was very active in several civic and social activities. He was a member of the New Castle Elks Club, a member of the Spiceland Lions Club, and received his 50-year membership award from the New Castle Masonic Lodge. He was a three time Past Master in the Spiceland Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served many years as a Worthy Patron in the Spiceland O.E.S. Roger was a school board member, serving 16 years on the South Henry School Corporation Board. He was a member of the Spiceland Methodist Church and attended the Spiceland Friends Meeting.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Anderson) Ward, of 49 years, whom he married June 24, 1961; two daughters: Suzanne (husband: Jeff) Stiller of Greenfield; Mindy (husband: Steve) Rose of Middleton, WI; four grandsons: Mitchell Ward Stiller, Wesley Ryan Stiller, Griffin Ward Rose, Garrett Robert Rose; a sister, Kay and brother-in-law, Ron Lightfoot of New Castle; brother-in-law, Ron Anderson of New Castle; nephews, Scott (wife, Susan) Lightfoot of New Castle and Rick (wife, Jody) Anderson of Sutherlin, OR; nieces, Jody (husband, Tony) Mitchell of New Castle and Kecia (husband, J.R.) Adams of Roseburg, OR; several cousins.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Spiceland Friends Meeting with David Brock and Richard Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Spiceland Alumni Educational Fund, P.O. Box 274, Spiceland, IN 47385 or the Spiceland Methodist Church, P.O.
