Rollin Johnson, Jr., with his wife Bea faithfully by his side, joined his Savior Jesus Christ, on September 1, 2016. One of eight children of Rollin, Sr. and Nettie Belle Johnson, Rollin was born in Spiceland, IN on August 19, 1923.
He was previously married to Mildred Akins Johnson for over 60 years, who preceded him in death in 2008. Rollin will be remembered as an adoring and serving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, sibling and friend. Rollin served his country in WWII, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was a proud member of the Indiana Freemasons, Cumberland Lodge 726. Rollin supported his family faithfully having worked at Gene Conreaux Company, until his retirement as President of the company. Found often singing songs and retelling countless stories, Rollin was a joyous man with an infectious smile, loved by all who shared time with him. A man of meticulous order, Rollin took great pride in caring for his lawn and was proud to show off his tools, and spotless garage and shed. He was faithful to send birthday cards to friends and family, who could count on receiving a phone call from Rollin with an enthusiastic rendition of “Happy Birthday.” Perhaps most important to Rollin was his faith in Jesus Christ, the Johnson family being longstanding members of Spiceland United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Bea Akins Johnson, and his children, Linda Johnson DeMeulenaere (Joseph) and William Rollin Johnson (Susan Porter) and their children, Bryan and Erin Shaul, Jesseka and Matthew DeMeulenaere, and Nicholas Rollin Johnson (Jenifer). Rollin was also the proud great-grandfather of Annabelle Porter Johnson and Carter Rollin Johnson. Also surviving Rollin is his sister Martha Solomon, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Joseph Johnson, Lyle “Sam” Johnson, Mary Templeton, John Johnson, Gordon Johnson, and Carrie Goldberg.
The family also extends their heartfelt appreciation to Bea’s son, Terry Akins for all his support and care.
Visitation will be conducted at 10am on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Spiceland United Methodist Church (123 N. 2nd St., Spiceland, IN) with a Masonic service to follow at 11:45am and funeral service immediately thereafter with Pastor Keith Grove officiating.
