Romelle Fay Stone, 78, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Danville Regional Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was born September 30, 1939 in Bloomington, IL to the late Herbert D. and Mildred (Cox) Martin.
A 1957 graduate of Bessemer High School in Bessemer, Alabama, she worked at Deering Drugs in Anderson, then after moving to New Castle, she worked at New Castle High School, then was cashier at Becker Bro.’s on “A” Ave., then retired from Marsh in New Castle, where she spent many years as a cashier.
She was a member of Walnut St. Church of God and then South Memorial Drive Church of God for many years. She and her husband, Alton, met while living in Anderson at a Church of God function. They sang together for many years, along with their son, Jeff. After retirement, Romelle lived in Washington, IL and Lancaster, KY before moving to Danville in 2012 to be close to her son.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Jeff (Gale) Stone of Danville; four grandchildren, Jackson, Jayson, Kannan, and Kooper Stone, all of Danville; a sister, Marjorie McBride of Lancaster, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Alton “Big Al” Stone in 1990; and a brother, Irv Martin.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at South Memorial Drive Church of God with Pastor Chris Gammello officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.
