Ronald D. Abbott, age 70, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born January 2, 1939 in Mooreland, Indiana to Wilbur and Lora (Brown) Abbott.

He retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service. Ronald was a member of the First Christian Church in Mooreland. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ronald was definitely a “family man” who loved and cherished his family dearly.

Survivors include his loving wife: Erika (Schreiber) Abbott of New Castle; four children: Jeffrey Abbott of New Castle, Thomas (wife: Lori) Abbott of Danville, IN, Marian (husband: Evan) Lawton of Congerville, IL and Cindy Moistner of Middletown; eight grandchildren: Christopher, Jason, Ashleigh, Heidi, Larrissa, Derrick, Justin and Jacob; five great grandchildren with two more on the way; his mother: Lora Abbott; a brother: Donnie Abbott; two sisters: Linda and Penny; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother: Eddie; a nephew: Little Donnie.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Bill Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at the funeral home.
