Ronald Kay Lowhorn

It is with solemn hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Kay Lowhorn. Ron departed from this world at Bethel Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center in Muncie, Indiana on January 15, 2025 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 83 years old.

Ron was born in Albany, Kentucky on December 11, 1941. He was the 2nd child of Jesse Henry Lowhorn and Helen Juanita (Smith) Lowhorn. Ron grew up in Straughn Indiana. He attended Ball State University and the University of New Mexico on a basketball scholarship. He then left to serve three tours of duty in Vietnam with the 375th Army Security Agency Co (EW) where he received several commendations for meritorious and heroic service. It was during this time that he met his wife of 56 years, Masako Tamiya. Their paths crossed on his return flight to Vietnam after a period of rest and recuperation in the United States. After marrying, they settled in Henry Country, Indiana where Ron worked for Chrysler Corporation and the United States Postal Service. He was also a farmer and operated a small grocery store in Straughn.


Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Henry Lowhorn and Helen Juanita (Smith) Lowhorn; his twin brother Donald Ray Lowhorn who died in infancy; his first grandchild, Elijah Hubler; his sister-in-law Barbara (Mercer) Lowhorn and his brother-in-law, Gary Retz.

Ron leaves behind his wife: Masako (Tamiya) Lowhorn; three adult children; Tami (Lowhorn) Hubler (Pastor Chris Hubler) of Pendleton, Jon Lowhorn of New Albany, IN and Michelle (Lowhorn) Tagle of New Castle; his older brother, Paul Lowhorn of Cambridge City, IN, his younger sister: Jackie Sue (Lowhorn) Retz of New Lisbon, IN; his youngest brother Rick (Donna Lines) Lowhorn of Spiceland, IN and five grandchildren: Jacob Hubler, Allyson Tagle, Alena Tagle, Nathan Lowhorn and Nolan Lowhorn.


Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will take place in Lewisville Cemetery at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. You may express condolences or share a memory of Ron at www.hinsey-brown.com.
