Ronald E. "Ronnie" Thornburgh

November 18, 1936 — April 12, 2016

Ronald E. “Ronnie” Thornburgh, age 79, of Mt. Summit, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at his residence. He was born November 18, 1936 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Lee James and Pauline Marie (Werking) Thornburgh.

He retired from Brooks Foods following 43 years of service. Ronnie loved church and attended Brown Road Church of God where he was a trustee. He served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. Ronnie was a loving husband, dad and papaw. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, the Mooreland Fair Tractor and Horse pulls, fishing, traveling, gardening, and could fix anything that was broken.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Ellen Thornburgh of Mt. Summit; children, Rhonda (Randy) Youse of New Castle, Debbie (Ken) Walters of New Castle, Paula Stanley of Thornton, CO, James E. (Jennifer) Thornburgh of Bellefontaine, OH, and William R. (Sonja) Thornburgh of Mt. Summit; grandchildren, Debra Lee (Tom) Eckart, Amber L. (Aaron) McCreery, Kristen L. and Austin L. Stanley, Caleb, Elijah and Seth Thornburgh, Jackson, Abby and Wyatt Thornburgh; two great-grandchildren, Bailee and Savanah McCreery; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norman L. Thornburgh; nephew, Mike Thornburgh; mother-in-law, Verna E. Fannin.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Allen Polston officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 at the funeral home.Military rites will be conducted by the local American Legion/VFW and an active duty contingent from the United States Army.
