Roscoe J. Burris, 99, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in his home. He was born March 6, 1910 in Wayne County, KY the son of Johnie and LeeAnn (Burchett) Burris.
Roscoe retired in 1972 from Guide Lamp in Anderson after 18 years. He was a member of the UAW.
He is survived by seven children: Flarncie Culver of Calico Rock, AR, Irene (husband: Jerry) Bevans of New Castle, Lillian (husband: Willie) Lowe of New Castle, Bettie (husband: James) Upchurch of Muncie, James (wife: Pauline) Burris of New Castle, Louise (husband: William) Vance of New Castle, Benny (wife: Vickie) Burris of New Castle; twenty seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Gladys Burris; an infant son: Johnie Randall Burris; two sons-in-law; two brothers: Tom and Elza Burris; six sisters: Net, Jane, Liz, Annie, Ella and Maude; four grandchildren: Wesley Culver III, Steven McDowell, Gary Bevans and Sherie Vance.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service New Castle and will be followed by graveside services at 12:00 noon at Green Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Rick Davis officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the New Castle First Aid Unit with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.hinsey-brown.com .
