Rosemary Griggs

Rosemary Griggs, age 78, of Mt. Summit, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at her residence. She was born November 26, 1932 in Dunkirk, Indiana to the late Robert Harlan and Anna Elizabeth (Dixon) Smoot.

She was a foster parent for over 100 children over a period of 17 years. Rosemary was a member of Mt. Summit Christian Church. She was a seamstress out of her home and owned and operated Split Britches. She was also a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her children: Joseph Allen (wife: Janette) Griggs of Knightstown, Michael Dewayne (wife: Kim) Griggs of Tucson, AZ, Rebecca Jane (husband: Christopher) Bennett of Kokomo, and Christopher (wife: Angie) Griggs of New Castle; grandchildren: Robert Griggs of Mt. Summit, Marie Bennett of Middletown, David Bennett of Kokomo, Joey Griggs of Bradenton, FL; great grandchildren: Prestyn Bennett of Middletown, Austin Griggs of New Castle, and Ava Griggs of FL; a brother: Bob (wife: Gladys) Smoot of Fayetteville, NC; two half brothers: Richard (wife: Rhonda) Culbertson of Lafayette and Wilburn Culbertson of NC; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph J. Griggs, Jr., January 8, 2009.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at Mt. Summit Christian Church with Reverend Mark O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mt.
