Rosemary Hoff, age 89, of New Castle, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born July 20, 1924 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Elmer and Edith (Shane) McMullen.
Rosemary graduated from New Castle High School in 1943. Educated as a beautician, she soon moved to retail grocery and then to First National Bank in 1949. She worked at the bank from 1949 to 1987 except for a few years spent at Farm Bureau Coop. She held many jobs at the bank and was at one time head of bookkeeping and head teller. Rosemary loved music, having been part of a country-western band the “Rhythm Rangers” in the early 1940s with her first husband Charles Rose. This group at one time performed on WSM in Nashville and WLS in Chicago.
She joined the First Baptist Church in 1943 and was a member for 71 years. She had served as treasurer and also as secretary of the church. In the last years she had also attended the First Friends Church in New Castle. After retiring from the bank in 1987, Rosemary spent 22 years volunteering at Henry County Hospital and also the Basketball Hall of Fame. She continued volunteer work until her failing eyesight forced her to stop driving. Her love for people and the community is evident in the thousands of hours that she volunteered.
The family wants to give a special thank you to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospice and all of the nurses and staff of the Waters of New Castle.
Survivors include a son, Gary Dale (Rita) Rose of Markleville; grandsons, Dr. Anthony (Christina) Rose of Zionsville and Michael Rose; great grandsons, Marcus and Brandon Rose; step daughter-in-law, Jackie Hoff; step grandson, Tim Hoff.
