Ruby Ann Griffin

Ruby Ann Griffin, 79, of Greenfield, formerly of New Castle passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. She was born June 1, 1933 in Tateville, Kentucky to the late London and Nell (Bray) Godsey.

She retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1987 after 18 years of service, where she was a member of UAW Local 371. Prior to her work at Chrysler, she had worked for Palm Beach Company in Somerset, Kentucky after graduation from Burnside (Ky) High School in 1951. Later she worked for Kumfy Togs in New Castle, where she helped organize and served as first local president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU). She participated in labor relations training for two consecutive summers at the University of Wisconsin. After retirement from Chrysler, she worked for jewelry stores in the Somerset, Kentucky area. She attended Foursquare Gospel Church for many years.

Survivors include her son, John A. “Tony” Griffin of Greenfield; a sister: Kelda (husband, Ray) Wade of Berea, Kentucky; a niece Genella (husband: Joey) Ihrig and nephew Tim Wade of Berea, Kentucky; sister-in-laws: Bessie Tapley of New Castle, Ruby Curtis of Richmond, Vinnie Murray and Coleen Cross of Kentucky; many Griffin family nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

In addition to her father, and mother Nell Bean (who died February 9, 2012), she was preceded in death by her husband: John S. Griffin, on February 7, 2008; her beloved grandparents: James and Slonie Bray; aunts: Flonnie Walker, Lottie Bray, Grace Rhodes, Fronia Cook, Goldie Walden, Rhoda Mason and Lee Hughes; uncles: Arthur Bray, Milton Bray, Sam Bray and Earl Bray; and several cousins.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Charles McDonald and Ken Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
