Ruth Ann Denny, 77, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Reid Health in Richmond following a two year battle with cancer. She was born September 9, 1939 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Alva and Ida Mae (Smith) Perry.
Ruth had attended New Castle High School and was a member of Abundant Life Church in New Castle. Ruth retired from the New Castle State Hospital as a QMA following thirty-four and a half years of service. She had also be employed by Stonebrooke Rehab for six years and volunteered with hospice. Ruth enjoyed camping, crocheting, singing and playing the piano but most of all she enjoyed time with family and her many friends. Aside from family and friends, Ruth’s favorite past time was going to Wal-mart.
She is survived by her daughters, Anna Ruth (John) Dock and Judith Ann (Mike) Shelley both of New Castle; grandchildren, Elisha Dock (Billy Sparks), Chris (Micah) Dock, Kimberly Turner (Josh Martt), Heather (Michael) Lawson, David Bradshaw, Aimee Denny, Misti (AJ) Fridley; great-grandchildren, Taylor Dock, Alivia Dock, Conner Dock, Braiden and Blake Denny, Reece Denny, Meka Fridley, Sophia Lawson, Gabe Denny, Sookie Dock, Annabella Dock, and Braydon Sparks; brothers, Avery (Inus) Perry, Alva Perry Jr.; brothers-in-law, Larry Grooms and Glen Edwards; sister-in-law, Shirley Perry; Lifelong friend, Carol Prosser and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Denny Sr.; a son, Melvin Denny Jr.; step-mother, Rosie Perry; brothers, James Perry and Dr. David Perry; sisters, Betty Grooms and Edna Edwards; sisters-in-law, Teresa Perry and Faye Perry; daughter-in-law, Tamara Denny.
Services will be at 11a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Pastor Mike Winner officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday November 1, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
