Ruth Irene Baker

Ruth Irene Baker, 81, of New Castle passed away February 7, 2015 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on November 7, 1933 in Wells County, Indiana to the late Ross Oberon and Eva Myrtle (Burson) Dick.

Ruth was a 1951 graduate of Roll High School located in Wells County, Indiana. She then married the love of her life, Willard W. “Bill” Baker on June 27, 1954. Ruth and Bill loved to travel and would spend time each year in Butternut, Wisconsin and St. Pete Beach, Florida. They also enjoyed fishing and camping together along with their children. Ruth spent most of her days as a wonderful homemaker who loved her home and kept it meticulous. She loved to cook and her recipes are highly sought after by family and friends. Ruth would attend sporting events where her family would be participating, whether it was her children or grandchildren, she rarely missed an event. She had also been a den mother during the Boy Scout years with Del and Mark and enjoyed spending Saturdays shopping with daughter, Kim. She also enjoyed crocheting. Ruth and Bill had been members of the Farmerama Club and hosted the annual New Year’s Eve party for years. Ruth was a member of the Union Grove Church of the Brethren in Muncie and has attended the Sulphur Springs Christian Church for the past several years. The Baker family would like to thank the Sulphur Springs Church family for all the support and prayers over the past several months.


Ruth is survived by her husband of 60 years, Willard W. “Bill” Baker of New Castle; son, Mark (Melanie) Baker of New Castle; daughter, Kimberly S. Baker Ondras of New Castle; grandchildren, Heather (Donnie) Reimer of Greenfield, Erik (Jessica) Baker of Noblesville, Whitney (Matt) Turner of New Castle, Jessica Ondras of Boston, MA; great grandchildren, Jonathan and Justin Reimer, Ryleigh Baker; brother, Ross Dick Jr. of Columbia City; several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by a son, Del Alan Baker; grandson, Ryan Dean Ondras; siblings, Maxwell Dick, Hilda Dewees, Zola June France, Lenora Susan Dick, Richard Omega Dick and Robert Dick.

Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. C J Buskirk officiating. A private burial at Gardens of Memory in Muncie will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
