Ruth LaVerne Mitchell, 88, of New Castle passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born March 2, 1925 in Waynesburg, Kentucky to the late John Morgan and Arilla (Burke) Mullins.
Ruth had worked for a fabric company in Cincinnati in the 1940's and was also a union member of the garment industry. She had worked for the Long Motel in Dunreith during the 1950's and also cleaned homes in the area for about 30 years. She was the wife of a Navy man, a member of the Spiceland Alumni Association and the Liberty Baptist Church in Dunreith. Ruth was an avid bowler, bowling on several leagues. She enjoyed driving, reading, taking pictures, canning, gardening and keeping a diary.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Helen Davis (companion: Carlos Espinoza) of Muncie, John (Carolyn) Mitchell of New Castle, Larry (Vicki) Mitchell of New Castle, Linda (Jerry) Allen of Rushville, Mark D. (Julie) Mitchell of Windfall, IN; sixteen grandchildren: Linda Sue, Michelle, Brent Alan, Misti, Traci, Aimie, Jerry, Katie, Tricia L., Paige, Aaron, Matt, Mike, David, Paul, Tammy and Brian; twenty five great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The last of thirteen children, she was preceded in death by her parents, all her brothers and sisters and their spouses, husband: Hobert; son: David; two grandsons: Brent Hobert and Kevin Scott; two great grandchildren: Laken Riley and Jessica.
Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Reverend Tim Dice officiating. Burial will follow at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Friends may call from 3 - 8 PM Tuesday, October 29 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
