N. Ruth( Cooney) Brooks Smith
Went home to be with the Lord on June5, 2013 in Dekalb, Illinois where she was currently living. Ruth was formerly of North Port, Florida where she resided and attended Lighthouse Baptist Church. Ruth grew up and spent her adult life in New Castle, Indiana. She graduated from New Castle High School Class of 1947. Ruth was Manager of the Chrysler Federal Community Credit Union until her retirement in 1980. She studied and loved God's Word and was a Sunday school teacher for many years at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church then located on Broad Street.

She was born October 16th, 1927 in Cambridge City, Indiana, daughter of Lorena Whitton Cooney and William Cooney.

Ruth is survived by daughters, Cindy (Lowell) Lumpkin of Sycamore, Illinois, Cheryl (Richard) Mastin of North Port, Florida; daughter-in-law, Rose Brooks of Port Charlotte, Florida; grandchildren, Brent (Charity) Mastin of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Brian Mastin and Deanna Freidel and son Laine of North Port, Florida, David (Carly) Lumpkin of Chicago, Illinois, Dan Lumpkin of Charleston, South Carolina, John Brooks of Port Charlotte, Florida, Michelle (Richard) Gromalski of Punta Gorda, Florida; great-grandchildren, Haley Mastin, RJ and Abbigail Gromalski; a brother, Omer Cooney;
step-children, Gary (Debbie) Smith, Cassel (Cindy) Smith Jr , Rosemary (Mike) Taylor, and Lori Logan, of New Castle, Indiana; step-grandchildren, Misty (Steve) Bachinski, Larry Stigall, Heather (Clint) Moore, Hannah Logan, Carisa (David) Whitefield, Cory Smith, Cassel (Jane) Smith III, Caleb and Eli Smith; nieces, Mary Helen (Dick) Hankins of Connersville, Indiana, Teresa (Mike) Major of Noblesville, Indiana, Mary Kay (Leroy) Burge of Richmond Indiana and other nephews and nieces from the Cooney and Brooks family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cassel C. Smith of 28 years of marriage and Charles William Brooks 30 years of marriage. A son, Jack Brooks, and brothers James, Arthur, and Floyd Cooney sisters Eula Cooney, Eva Hamke, Sylvia Hinners, and Mary Blake.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent in Ruth's Memory to Dekalb Co.
