Ruth Spreen, 83, of New Castle, died Sunday in Glen Oaks Health Campus following an extended illness. She was born March 11, 1925 in Shelbyville, a daughter of Frank C. and Estella M. (Adkins) Applegate.
A homemaker, she enjoyed miniature craft making and collecting clowns.
Survivors include her husband, Ben Spreen of New Castle; a daughter, Shelia (husband, Kenneth) Cox of New Castle; a son, Jimmy Crosley of Crystal Lake, FL; three step-children, John Spreen of New Palastine, Linda Hengstler of Palatine, IL, and Mary Spreen of Iowa City, IA; four grandchildren including, Kenny (wife, Gina) Cox and Kelly Cox, both of New Castle; six step-grandchildren, Karen, Kevin, Dylan, Joel, Abe and Lucy; three great grandchildren, Carson, Grady, and Bailey Cox, all of New Castle; ten step great-grandchildren; one brother, Curtis C. (wife, Opal) Applegate of Portland, OR; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Coffey; two sisters, Daisy Borden and Edna Everly.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverend Robert Schafer officiating.
