Ruth Williams Stamper

Ruth Williams Stamper passed away in Tuscon, Arizona on September, 24, 2016. Born on Sept. 12, 1919, Ruth lived her whole life on her family farm in Prairie Township until her recent move to Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburne Stamper in 2014. They were married for 75 years.

Ruth was a 1938 graduate of Mt. Summit High School. She was an active partner in the operation of the family dairy farm, and also worked for many years in the Chrysler High School library. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in New Castle, Indiana and Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson. She was an accomplished cook, talented landscape and portrait artist, skilled gardener, an avid reader, a nurturing mentor, a friend to all creatures large and small, and a source of much love and encouragement to all her family.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Alice Stamper of Anderson; her brother-in-law, Milton Stamper of Bloomington; a daughter, Anne Gooden of Tucson, Arizona; sons, John Stamper of Pacific Palisades, California and Mark Stamper of New Castle; grandchildren, Hilary Stamper of Half Moon Bay, California, Jeffery Stamper of San Francisco, California, Andrea Gooden and Cristina Fountain of Tucson, Arizona, Lisa E. Buksar and Mark A. Stamper of New Castle; great-grandchildren, Taysean and Amaria Fountain, Jasmine and Chloe Standez, Emily, Kathryn and Andrew Coy.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lucy Williams; her brother, Robert Williams; sisters-in-law, Janice Williams, Mary Shively, Lela Lovelace and Patsy Wills; her daughter-in-law, Trudy Stamper; and son-in-law, David Gooden.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Dennis Kinser officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday, prior to the service. Private burial will be at the Mooreland Cemetery at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Henry County Humane Society, 11 Midway Dr., New Castle, IN 47362.
