Ruth Utt Thompson, 83, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born April 30, 1926 in New Castle the daughter of William and Minnie (Symons) Utt.
Ruth was a member of the North 14th St. Church of Christ. She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed painting and flower gardening. She was an avid sports fan, a musician and enjoyed singing.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years: Francis Thompson; son: Terry (wife: Nina) Thompson of Bellingham, WA; daughters: Tamara Alcorn and Tanya (husband: Bill) Fribley of New Castle; seven grandchildren: Trey, Eric and Rachel Alcorn, Amanda and Brandon Fribley, Noah and Zoe Thompson; one sister: Joan Phipps of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Timothy Thompson in 1953; four brothers: John, Harold, Marion, and Billy Utt; six sisters: Vera Lorton, Hilda Shafer, Coralie Shafer, Della Banta, Evelyn Snider and Martha McGuire.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, February 19, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mike Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday, February 18, 2010. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
