Sally Jo Jones, 65, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. She was born on June 24, 1959, in New Castle, to the late James R. and Sarah E. (Sheppard) Bates.
A 1977 graduate of New Castle High School, Sally held various roles throughout her career, including owner of Sally B’s Ceramic Store; she loved working with ceramics and especially excelled at creating Nativity Scenes. Sally had also been employed at Roberts Pipeline, Rick Ward Chevrolet Dealership, and Ball Memorial Hospital, where she retired as a dietitian in 2021 after 24 years of dedicated service. Sally was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star reaching the status of Worthy Matron.
Sally will be remembered for her onery and headstrong spirit but had a compassionate heart, always going out of her way to care for others, often giving selflessly to those in need. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Muncie and loved Christ. She loved to bake and found joy in baking cupcakes, preparing small dinners for friends, and spending time with her loved ones. Sally cherished her time at Addison Place, where she formed many dear friendships.
Family was at the center of Sally’s life. She was a loving sister, aunt and caregiver, particularly devoted to her nieces and nephews, who meant the world to her. She also cared deeply for her late mother-in-law and was always there for her family and friends.
Sally is survived by her siblings: Belinda (Mark) Bates Zahnle of Cle Elum, WA, and Judie (Bob) Tyner of Dublin; niece, Beth (David) Smitherman of New Castle; nephew, Jeremy (Christy) Culbertson of Greensburg; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kody (girlfriend: Sarah Christner) Dillon Smitherman and Kayla Culbertson; adopted brother, Jack (Cheryl) Hannum of New Castle, and his children, Leah (Kolby) Durham, Philip (Joe) Hinson, Paul (Katherine)Hannum; along with several cousins and many special friends from Addison Place.
In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffrey Jones; sister, Connie Bates; niece and nephew, Amie Lynn and Alex Brent Zahnle; in-laws, Merle and Thelma Jones.
Services will be held at 4:00pm Monday, December 30, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Jack Hannum officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00pm until the time of service on Monday. Entombment will take place in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie at the convenience of the family.
