Sam Selke

January 29, 1921 — November 30, 2008

Sam C. Selke, 87, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008 in his home at Raintree Square with his family at his side. He was born January 29, 1921 in New Castle, a son of the late Raymond and Jayne (Wyne) Selke.

A 1940 graduate of New Castle High School, he retired from Dana Corporation in 1981 where he was a toolmaker. A member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle, he also was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II as 3rd Class Petty Officer. He was a life member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles Lodges, and was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #1282.

He is survived by two daughters, Sally (husband, Steve) Hale of New Castle, and Connie (husband, Steve) Paul of Nashville, IN; a son, Phil (wife, Kay) Selke of New Castle; nine grandchildren, Jo Ella (husband, Scott) Peavie of New Castle, Burke (wife, Kameron) Warman of Straughn, Mark (wife, Cara) Paul, Amy Paul (partner, Mandy Sheckles), Eric (wife, Tricia) Paul, all of Indianapolis, Cortney (companion, Michael Smith), Staci, Justin and Erik Selke, all of New Castle; and seven great grandchildren, Shaye Warman, Nathaniel, Eli, Emily, Ben, and Sarah Peavie, Garrett, Alex, Dylan, Maggie, Meredith, Amanda and Bradley Paul, and Memphis Smith; several nieces and nephews and three sisters-in-law.

Being an only child, Sam had several close cousins who were a very important part of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores “Dee” Selke and a son, Brad Selke.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with the Reverend Richard True officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Mooseheart Child City or the Henry County Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to. www.hinsey-brown.com .
