Sandra Jean Pitchford

Sandra Jean (Brodebeck) Pitchford, 76, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Indiana University Health North Hospital. She was born March 22, 1936 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Jerry and Thelma (Tarrant) Brodebeck.

Sandy grew up in Ithaca, Michigan and graduated from high school there. She then attended Michigan State University. She retired from Source One in Muncie, which was formerly Swartz and Jordan Paper. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle where she sang in the choir for several years and was a member of the Women’s Group. She was active in P.E.O. She was a past member of Tri Kappa, Lady Elks, and the Altruistic Literary Club. Sandy enjoyed golf, bowling and all sports, especially Michigan State Athletics. She also was an avid reader and loved to travel. She very much enjoyed her family cottage at Houghton Lake in Michigan, spending time with her grandchildren and raising roses.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 55 years, Dean Pitchford of New Castle, whom she married June 22, 1957; two sons: David (wife, Elizabeth) Pitchford of New Castle and John (wife, Kathy) Pitchford of Springboro, OH; four grandchildren: Stuart Pitchford of Richmond, Alexandra and Jillian Pitchford, both of New Castle, and Kaitlyn Pitchford of Springboro, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Jerry and Thelma Brodebeck.

Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, August 13, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Affairs of the Heart c/o Henry County Community Foundation, PO Box 6006, New Castle, IN 47362.
