Sandra D. Stewart, 58, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 20, 1954 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Quinton and Carrie A. (Jolley) Zachary.
A 1972 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, she had worked for over 24 years as a Correctional Officer at the CIF Pendleton Correctional Facility.
She is survived by her children, whom she raised by herself, Abigail Ann Poe (companion, Adam Johnson), Aaron (wife, Amber) Stewart, and Carrie Stewart, all of New Castle; grandchildren, Taylor Poe, at Manchester University, Nathan Poe, Madison Poe, and Cameron Poe, Alyssa Stewart, Ashley Stewart, and Layne Stewart, and Shalynn Groce, all of New Castle.
Also, her siblings, Mike Zachary, Penny Thurston, and Quinn Zachary, all of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gary Thurston.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
