Shelby "Butch" Hall

Shelby Duane “Butch” Hall, Sr. , age 68, of New Castle, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at St. Vincent’s Heart Center in Indianapolis. He was born February 28, 1942 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Claude and Ina (Neal) Hall.

Butch was a 4th degree Black Belt in Okinawan Gojy Ryu Karate-Do at Chatlfant’s Karate where he was loved and respected dearly by all who knew him. He began his karate training in 1998 and was an assistant instructor there. He was also an active skydiver for 30 years. He attended Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church. Butch served in the United States Army from 1959-1962 as a Spec. 5. After 38 years of service, he retired from the forge division at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in 2003.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley J. (Baker) Hall of New Castle, whom he married June 5, 1960; four children, Shelby Hall, Jr. of New Castle, Cathy (husband, Glenn) Jones of Albany, KY, Bryan (wife, Brenda) Hall of Albany, KY and Brent Hall of New Castle; five grandchildren, Joseph D. Jones of Albany, KY, Heather D. Hughes of Albany, KY, Courtney J. Hall of New Castle, Brittany N. Jones of Albany, KY and Molly N. Hall of New Castle; one great grandson, Austin Hughes; two sisters, Gloria Renner and Tammy Duke; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Mary Baker; two brothers-in-law, Bill Baker and Larry Renner; three nephews, Jody Baker, Mike Baker and Gary Renner.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Bob Pavey officiating. Entombment will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or the Henry County Heart Association, 1000 N. 16th St., New Castle, IN 47362, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
