Sherman Catt, Jr., age 85, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Henry County Hospital. He was born November 9, 1927 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Sherman and Hazel L. (Harrold) Catt, Sr.
Sherman was a New Castle Chrysler High School graduate of the 1946 class. Sherman retired from PSI Indiana in 1990 following 43 years of service. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting with his dog “Tip”. He was one of the founding managers of the Babe Ruth Baseball League, past president of the league and player agent. Sherman played a lot of baseball and some Semi Pro baseball having tryouts with the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburg Pirates. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Senior Eagles Lodge and also played fast pitch softball for both organizations. Sherman was also a member of the Breakfast Optimist and was “Optimist of the Year” in 1959.
Survivors include a son, John (wife, Lizabeth) Catt of New Castle; daughter, Susan Cross of New Castle; grandchildren, Tammy (husband, Mark) Eastridge, Cindi (husband, Bryan) Rottinghaus, Todd Jarrett, Adrianne (husband, Chris) Woolard all of New Castle; great grandchildren, Madison Eastridge, Tyler Jarrett, Spencer (wife:Brittney) Rottinghaus and Shelby Rottinghaus, Avery Catt, Carrington Woolard; a great-great grandchild, Kooper Rottinghaus; a niece, Connie (husband, Gene) Cross of New Castle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene; grandson, Tadd Jarrett; sisters, Lucille Catt and Emma Jane Hubbert.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Rick Schoeff officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Babe Ruth League with envelopes available at the funeral home.
