Sherry Lynn Abston

Sherry Lynn Abston, 73, of New Castle passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023. She was born in New Castle on October 24, 1950, a daughter of the late John D. and Gloria N. (Boucher) Abston.

God loving Christian, fervent animal lover, especially cats, sarcastic sense of humor and you knew her opinion on things are how many will remember Sherry. She had a love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Over the years, Sherry had attended Foursquare Gospel Church and Greensboro Nazarene. She had a talent and love for playing the piano; Sherry would travel with Rev. Gene Bennett and play the piano for Gene as he sang and shared the gospel at nursing homes and senior living centers. Sherry was a 1968 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School and later retired from there as she was employed as a custodian for 19 years.

Sherry is survived by her children, Amy (Anthony) Bocock of New Castle and Joe Briner of New Castle; grandchildren, Dominic, Victoria and Alec Smith; several loving aunts, cousins and lots of grand cats past and present.

In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jennifer.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, December 22, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
