Shirley Carroll

Shirley M. “Granny” Carroll, 74 of New Castle, formerly of Knightstown, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Henry County Hospital following an extended illness. She was born October 15, 1935 in Peru, IN the daughter of Artie and Faye (Collins) Wells.

Shirley moved to Knightstown in 1959 and became a longtime resident, but had resided in New Castle for the last 8 years. She was bookkeeper for the Knightstown Water Department for many years. She retired from the State of Indiana following 10 years of service in the Division of Social Services. She enjoyed crafts, Home Interior, and collecting Cherish Teddies and angels, but most importantly spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known as “Granny” to everyone.

She is survived by children: Duane (wife: Carol) Carroll of Knightstown; Julie (husband: Brian) Dellinger of New Castle; Mark (wife: Karmen) Carroll of Greenfield; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Bob (wife: Jane) Wells of Peru; and Dick Wells of FL; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother: Paul Wells and a sister: Betty Albert.

Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Friday, October 8, 2010. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
