Shirley Marie Medsker, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at Community Hospital North following a brief illness. She was born October 30, 1936 in Pendleton, a daughter of the late Leslie and Laura Mae (Baxter) Needler.
A 1954 graduate of Pendleton High School, Shirley worked in the Finance Center at Ft. Benjamin Harrison for eleven years, and retired from Indianapolis Public Schools as a Librarian Assistant for 22 years. She was a member of Christian Tabernacle Church her entire life. Shirley loved the foreign mission field, and assisted Sister Helen Bradley in Hawaii for a year, and traveled with Evangelist Willie Johnson in her younger years. She also enjoyed going to St. Louis and shopping at the Pentecostal Publishing House, mainly for books, as she was an avid reader.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially to Washington D.C. and Gatlinburg, TN.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 59 years, Charles A. Medsker of Indianapolis, two children, Julie (Tim) Inman of Springville and Rob (Deb) Medsker of Hurst, TX; grandchildren, Michael Inman, Brandon (Armonda) Inman, and Krista (Tony) Dobbs, all of Springville, Benjamin and Grace Medsker of Hurst, TX; six great grandchildren; a brother, Fred (June) Needler of Pendleton; a niece, Karen (Ian) Devalal; two nephews, Steve (Shelley) Needler and Dan (Jen) Needler; several great nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Christian Tabernacle Church with Pastor Kent Jordan officiating. Visitation will one hour prior, from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow at Grove Lawn Cemetery in Pendleton. Memorial contributions may be given to the Missions Fund, c/o Christian Tabernacle Church, 802 S. Franklin Rd., Indianapolis, IN 42639.
