Stanley J. Smith Jr.

July 18, 1931 — July 26, 2011

Stanley J. Smith, Jr. age 80 of Union City and formerly of New Castle passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in Winchester at his daughter’s home. He was born July 18, 1931 in Richmond, Indiana to the late Joe and Nona (Clark) Rasner.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in Korea. He retired from the Hemmelgran & Sons Grain Elevator after 42 years of service, and was formerly employed at Farm Bureau in New Castle. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. Stanley had also raised livestock many years ago. He was an avid reader.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Smith of Union City, OH; a son, Jeffrey (wife, Christine) Smith of Winchester; a daughter, Diane (husband, Doug) Lanter of Winchester; five grandchildren, Shana Boone, Farrah Harvey, Brian, Michael and Tyler Lanter; great grandchildren, Lily, Haley and Brennen Lanter, Jazlyn, Harvey and Kaiya Boone; two sisters, Edna Atkinson of New Castle and Linda (husband, Alex) Bevens of Tulsa, OK; one brother, Lowell “Bud” (wife, Mickey) Rasner of Richmond; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Greg Smith; brother, Richard Smith; a sister Beulah (James) Walker.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Brian Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be given to the State of the Art Hospice, 1350 N. Broadway Street Greenville, OH 45331 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
