Stella DeHart Schmidt

Stella DeHart Schmidt, 93, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Catawba, North Carolina Regional Hospice. She was born August 17, 1921 in Rowan County, Kentucky to the late D.B. and Annie (Jent) DeHart.

Those to left to cherish her memory are her sons, John Hood of Houston, TX and Billy Hood of Houston, TX; daughter, Judy Ann (Bill) Newton of Hickory, NC; brother, Earnest (Ann) DeHart of Louisiana; sisters, Leora Fannin of New Castle, IN, Irene Conley of Fort Mill, SC and Edna (Frank) Goldsberry of Brandon, FL; grandchildren, Amy Fentress, Neal Teague, Brian Teague, Aaron Hood, Angie Floyd, Tony Hood, Melissa Hood, Aimee Parker, Dannielle Carden, Brianna Hood, tia Teague, Scott Teague, Hanna Teague, Jim Jr. Hood, Benny Hood, Tony Rogers, Scott Rogers and Sherri Richards; twenty three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Debie Teague; extended family, Jesus, Maria, Leslie, Dayanna and Rafael Zavalas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Okla Clay Hood; second husband, Alphonse Schmidt; son, James G. Hood; daughter, Janet C. Rogers; brothers, Oscar DeHart, Cliff DeHart, and Roy DeHart; sisters, Ona Cox, Clona DeHart, and Viola DeHart.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle Pastor Jeff Jaco officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
