Steven G. Kovacs, 79, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born July 2, 1937 in Budapest Hungary to the late Dr. Dezso Kovacs and Anna Gaspar Medveczky both of Oroshaza, Hungary.
Born Kovacs Gusztav Istvah Dezso, Steve became a Yugoslavian refugee during the Hungarian revolution. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1960 to 1962 as a specialist. He worked at Perfect Circle for four years as a design draftsman, and then was employed at Chrysler Machine and Forge as a Maintenance Supervisor for 34 years. Steve taught at Ivy Tech in Muncie and Heartland Christian Academy. He enjoyed photography, engineering drafting, music, fixing everything from the kitchen sink to VCR’s, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband and father and helped many people. Steve also enjoyed meeting Chrysler employees at Stacks Restaurant.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Sue (Groce) Kovacs; son, Tracy (Rachel) Kovacs; daughter, Alissa (Kovacs) Turner; grandchildren, Stephanie (Donovan) Fisher, Jonathan (Rebecca) Turner, Rebekah Turner, Laura Kovacs and Jacob Kovacs; great-granddaughter, Emma Turner.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Kerry Kovacs; and a son-in-law, Richard Turner.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Don Raines and Paul Riddle officiating. Military rites will be conducted by a contingency from the US Army, American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
