Suvella A. (Bertram) Alley, age 74, of New Castle died unexpectedly Saturday, October 4, 2008 in Henry County Hospital. She was born May 21, 1934 in Monticello, KY, a daughter of the late Addison and Bertha (Asberry) Bertram.

A retiree of the New Castle/Henry County State Developmental Center, she worked in the dietary department. She was a very dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After retirement, she enjoyed watching movies on Lifetime, watching her grandchildren’s football games and collecting angels. She attended the Southside Youth Chapel in New Castle.

She is survived by three daughters, Rose Adkins of New Castle, Janet (husband, Jeff) Melton of New Lisbon, and Lisa Groce of New Castle; a daughter in law, Lola Alley of Straughn, two sisters, Beth Todd of Hagerstown and Daisy (husband, Buster) Fulton of Kentucky; two brothers, Eulan Bertram and Ruby Bertram, both of Kentucky; grandchildren, Angie (husband, Kevin) Wright of TN, Nikki (husband, Kevin) Melton of New Lisbon, Tiffany Hamblin of New Castle, Kori Alley (companion: Kyle Eaton) of Straughn, Michael Pope of KY, Darrel Groce of New Castle, Ronnie Bell II of New Castle, Phillip Alley of Straughn, James Bell of Lewisville, Ryan Hill of New Castle; two step-grandchildren, Brittny Melton of New Castle and Christa Melton of North Carolina; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law, Ned (wife, Joann) Alley, Theresa (husband, Joe, deceased) Alley, Donny (wife, Sherry) Alley, and Lila (husband, Dale) De Hart, all of New Castle; special friends, Joyce (husband, Mike) Ford of Lewisville, Peggy (husband, Tom) Ford of New Castle; her two adorable dogs, Molly and Eminem; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, James Alley; a son, Terry Alley; a daughter, Debbie (Alley) Bell; several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Private services will be Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Brother Ray Boiles officiating. Burial will follow in New Lisbon Cemetery.
